DAMAN KAUSHAL - ABSENT (OUT NOW)

Buzz Punjabi had the chance to talk with Daman Kaushal about his latest release "Absent." Check it out below!

For those of our readers who don't know you, please introduce yourself.

Hello, I'm Daman Kaushal, an ordinary guy with extraordinary dreams. I was raised in Ludhiana. I have an Master's in AgriBusiness Management from Chandigarh. i was interested in singing from earlier in my life but i didn't ever think of making into a career. Then I met Lil-Daku while i was in Chandigarh and that friendship become the stepping stones of my interest of making music my career. After completing my studies i was working a 9-5 job related to my career but my heart wasn't in it. Due to my job i wasn't able to complete my ambition towards my interest in music so i decided to quit my job. After the fact, I started to take music classes from Ustad Harvinder Singh Bittu ji.
In 2012 Lil' Daku and I recorded a song and put it on YouTube "Bullet vs. Honda" and Moviebox decided to pick up that song and officially released it with a video in 2013. This was the official launch of my career. Bullet vs. Honda had a great response and was one of my biggest hits. I'm a great fan of Ustad Kuldeep Manak Ji, Bakhshi Billa, Kaka Bhainiawala. It is listening to these 3 that I have became more eager to explore the essence of music.

You've been in the industry for a few years now. Tracks like "Beatriderz Boliyan," "Dollar," and "Roya Karegi" and have done really well. In what way is your latest single "Absent" different and how is the response to it so far?

The songs you mention target a different zone. "Beatriderz Boliyan was more of a party song. " Dollar" is for the audience that missed their significant other that wasn't with them. "Roya Karegi" was relateable to the people that had gone through a heart break in their life, a sad song. Each of these songs targeted a specific audience. Where as "Absent" everyone can relate to. Anyone that has been to collage or is in it now call easily relate to the situation portrayed in the song. The response to the song has be great. Everyone that has heard it has appreciated it.

How important do you think lyrics are for a song?

The lyrics are root of the song. The songs wording is what everything depends on.the main hook line can make or break the song. As we see there are a few singers that have become who they are today due to singing songs that had great lyrics without having the voice and practice. So the lyrics are what make the song.

Do you think it's important for singers to learn music before they release anything?

Yes, it is important that singers learn music before releasing anything. This way the individual will appreciate what the core of music is. The variety in music. One should have the understanding of what they are doing. without practice and understanding you can only go so far. In the music line all singers need to be trained to sing on stage.

Tell us something unique about yourself that we may not already know?

I was a national hockey player. Before singing I played hockey professionally. But due to an injury I had to quit.

To become a successful singer today it's important to make a video for your song. Do you think the video is more important than the song itself?

It is important to make a video but it is not more important then the song.It is equally as important.
